God didn’t create the external predator like a ‘lion against deer for Human beings. God planted the EGO as a part of four dimensions of mind i.e. Buddhi-Intellect, Chit-Conscious, Manas - Memory & finally EGO-Ahankara. EGO is also a relationship destroyer as in the great Mahabharata epic its Duryodhana’s ego which is responsible for creating envy with kins and subsequently a war of full-scale destruction. If EGO is bad then let’s look at why it is planted in our heads and explore how to use it instead of destroying it.
Understanding the EGO
Ego is called Ahankara(Aham-I & kara- Reason) which means the sense of self-pride with the thought that ‘I am the reason’. The Ego is within us and when it pops out we are not supposed to be the ideal one & even forgot it. The instants of EGO are
- When someone finds fault immediately in you & immediately if you start finding the fault with them that’s the Ego is started working.
- The Self Ego is responsible for pinpointing an Egoistic person as thinking others are Egoistic itself is Ego
- On seeing someone if we expect them to greet first then that’s the Ego.
EGO -Necessary until Growth
If EGO is so bad why can’t we ignore it? The fact is that we can’t simply destroy it as it is connected deeper within our self to take care and grow.
To achieve a certain growth in life we need to shed out the inferiority complex, remove the fear and generate self-confidence. Without this, we might end up being lazy & lose focus on our goals. EGO Should be used as a reserve helpline as when we are about to lose in the crorepati show for creating confidence when we lose track in achieving the goals. Again we should use the EGO to compete with our selves i.e.between the ideal version of what you wished and what you are currently are; not with others.
EGO -Evil After Grown
When we achieve success by reaching a certain level of superiority in a field then the thought of ‘I am the reason’ for my superiority pops out and ultimately we became egoistic. We might think that hard work is responsible for success however at the fundamental level without parents you can’t even born, Without teachers and existing works of literature you can't learn, without customers and vendors, you can’t exist either as an employer or employee and make money, without fans you can’t exist as a star. The truth is you can’t exist alone in this universe and need people for getting your own success. Just wrote down the list of people who helped you last year. You will be amazed by the numbers in the list.
Develop a Universal Ego
“அண்டத்தில் உள்ளது பிண்டத்தில் உள்ளது”
This famous Tamil quote(Chidambara ragasiyam) says what is inside the body as the soul pervades in the universe. The ultimate aim of any spiritual enquiry finally makes us understood that there is no I/Aham and everything around us is interconnected. Aham-Brahmasmi i.e. The essence of life in myself aka soul or consciousness is the same as within every life & inturn is a fraction present in the Code we call with the name GOD.
“Ego of self protects the self only whereas Ego of the universe protects the universe”
When the thought of ‘I became ‘We’ the self-ego vanishes and universal ego develops. It means we will start taking responsibility for bigger pictures and that thought makes you as a leader of a team who takes care of a team or even a protagonist who fights for a common cause. In the end, the universal ego makes you think ‘we are the reason’ and that thought cares the universe protects it well and flourishes it to live a better life for you also as ‘We include I whereas I don’t include We’.
